The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has warned that anyone who tampers with electoral assets during the forthcoming Osun election will face the full force of the law.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, gave the warning during an operational visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters in Osun State, where he met the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola.
Audi assured INEC of the Corps’ readiness to protect electoral materials, facilities and other critical assets before and during the election.
He said safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure remains a statutory responsibility of the NSCDC, adding that electoral facilities and materials are covered by the mandate.
The Commandant General said NSCDC personnel would work with INEC and other security agencies to protect the electoral environment and allow voters to exercise their franchise peacefully.
“Anyone who attempts to vandalize assets or interfere with the election will be seriously dealt with,” he warned.
Babalola commended Audi for visiting the Commission personally and acknowledged the Corps’ continued support in protecting electoral assets.
She reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting a transparent, free and credible election.
The visit, the NSCDC said, reflects its preparedness to deploy personnel and resources towards protecting electoral infrastructure, materials and citizens throughout the democratic exercise.
