Ogun State PDP governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu has reassured supporters that he remains in the 2027 race despite the omission of his name from INEC’s published list of candidates.
Adebutu addressed the development in a statement to the people of Ogun State, insisting that he remains a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that his nomination followed due process.
He said he completed his digital party registration within the stipulated period, obtained a printed membership card that was verified and submitted the required documentation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on time.
“I have not at any point left the PDP, and my commitment to our great party remains unwavering,” Adebutu said.
The former governorship candidate also maintained that INEC officials observed the party’s governorship primary that produced him as its flagbearer, adding that relevant documents were presented for verification, certification and confirmation.
Adebutu said the Ogun State PDP had raised concerns over what it described as undue pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on INEC.
He questioned why his name was missing from the governorship list when other PDP candidates contesting House of Assembly, House of Representatives and senatorial seats had been included.
“We will pursue this matter through the appropriate channels and insist that due process is respected,” he said.
Adebutu also alleged that the party had faced several challenges in its political activities, including restrictions on campaign billboards, attacks at campaign grounds and harassment of members.
Despite these experiences, he said the party remained committed to peaceful democratic participation and urged supporters not to allow intimidation to derail their political aspirations.
“I urge our members, supporters and the good people of Ogun State to remain calm and steadfast,” he said, expressing confidence that the matter would be resolved.
He added that he would not abandon his quest to provide what he described as the leadership and relief the people of Ogun State deserved.
Framing the dispute as a broader struggle over the state’s political future, Adebutu said his ambition went beyond personal interests, stressing the need to protect the people’s right to choose their leaders.
“Our cause is bigger than any individual. It is about the dignity of our people, the progress of our state and the right of Ogun people to determine our own future,” he said.
Reaffirming his political message, Adebutu declared that “OGUN FOR OGUN” remained a call for leadership rooted in the needs and welfare of the state’s residents.
“No distraction will make us abandon that commitment,” he said, ending his message with the declaration: “RELIEF IS HERE! ITURA DE!”
