According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the payment covered 1,574 beneficiaries under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters, was witnessed by members of the Force Management Team, insurance sector representatives and families of the beneficiaries.

The funds disbursed included claims dating as far back as 2015, some of which had been outstanding for nearly a decade. Egbetokun said the exercise marked the 11th round of payments since he assumed office, bringing the cumulative amount released under his watch to over ₦24.2 billion, benefitting 9,735 families.

He stressed that supporting families of departed officers was central to his leadership agenda, adding that his administration was redesigning the police welfare system to ensure transparency, speedy payments, and digital processing of entitlements.

The police chief praised the Force Insurance Unit for its work in driving the programme and commended insurance firms for fulfilling their obligations. He also acknowledged the role of the Ministry of Police Affairs and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he called the President’s “unwavering support to police welfare initiatives.”
