The development was contained in a press release dated March 27, 2026, by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a major step toward repositioning Nigeria’s education system for innovation, enterprise and economic productivity. He said the programme would redirect learning toward practical approaches that prepare students to become job creators.

Alausa explained that the scheme would embed entrepreneurship across disciplines, enabling students to turn academic knowledge into viable ventures. He added that it aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, stressed the importance of practical skill acquisition in boosting employability and self-reliance.

Participants from academia and the private sector pointed to the programme’s capacity to strengthen enterprise development and tackle youth unemployment.

The initiative, already underway in selected universities, is expected to spread across the country, with plans to provide mentorship, incubation support and opportunities for students to build scalable businesses.

The ministry restated its resolve to equip students with the skills required to support economic growth.
