The crisis, rooted in a dispute over traditional leadership, escalated into deadly clashes that claimed lives and left several properties destroyed.

The governor’s move seeks to unravel the underlying causes of the unrest, examine the roles played by individuals and interest groups, and provide a clear path toward restoring lasting peace in the affected communities.

Heading the panel is retired Justice Sunday Olorundahunsi, with other members including Justice Orimisan Okorisa, Primate Afolabi Aboyewa, Hon. Hamidu Takuro, and Barr. Yinka Orokoto. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Dele Adesanmi, will serve as Secretary.

Their mandate includes identifying those directly or indirectly involved in the crisis, either through actions or negligence, as well as those suspected of sponsoring the violence. The panel is also tasked with recommending strategies to forestall future conflicts and any other submissions deemed necessary based on its findings.

Governor Aiyedatiwa urged the panel to approach the assignment with integrity and impartiality, emphasizing the importance of delivering their report within six weeks. He also appealed to residents of the area to maintain peace and extend full support to the panel members during the investigation.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, on May 13, 2025
