Fresh concerns over security in parts of Badagry took centre stage on Friday as the Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Peter Ajose, urged security agencies and residents to close ranks against criminal activities within the axis.
The call was contained in a press release issued by the Media Unit in the Office of the Executive Chairman after a stakeholders’ security meeting held at the Area K Police Command Headquarters in Morogbo, Badagry.
Ajose told the gathering that safety must be treated as a shared duty, urging stronger working ties among the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and local vigilante groups.
He stressed the need for intelligence sharing and coordinated operations, warning that peace and safety remain central to development and that insecurity could slow the delivery of democratic gains to residents.
The council chief also drew attention to the sensitive position of border communities in Badagry, urging tighter surveillance and better intelligence gathering to curb trans-border crimes and prevent criminal infiltration.
While speaking on community policing, Kumayon called on residents to support security operatives with useful and timely information capable of preventing criminal acts.
He also expressed worry over recent violent incidents in the area, citing the killing of an okada rider in Ajara Vetho and the fatal shooting of a young man at Pako Bus Stop in Oko Afo along the Badagry-Lagos Expressway.
The chairman praised the Nigeria Police Force for the swift arrest of suspects linked to the Pako Bus Stop killing, describing the action as “a step that would strengthen public confidence in the security system.”
Ajose reaffirmed his administration’s backing for the police and other security agencies and urged them to maintain professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights in the course of their duties.
He also appealed to government authorities, traditional rulers and community leaders to join hands in safeguarding peace across Olorunda LCDA and communities under the Area K Command.
The meeting drew the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh; the Area Commander, ACP Adele Smith; heads of other security agencies; traditional rulers; and community leaders.
