The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Centre of Excellence, has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media which allegedly shows the party chairman being molested during a protest at its secretariat.

The clarification was issued in a statement by Ayaba Akingbehin, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the APC Chairman, Lagos State, who addressed public concern over the footage and the claims accompanying it.

The party stated that the APC Chairman was neither attacked nor harassed during the incident, adding that he was not even present at the secretariat when the protest took place.

While acknowledging the right of citizens to express grievances, the party stressed that such actions must remain within the bounds of the law and must not disrupt public order or party discipline.

It further noted that the primary election process had already been concluded, explaining that internal party structures remain available for handling complaints arising from the exercise. Aggrieved members were urged to make use of those channels rather than resorting to protests that could heighten tension within the party.

The statement also called for calm among members and stakeholders, warning against actions capable of distorting facts or creating unnecessary division.

Members of the public and the media were advised to rely strictly on official party communication channels for verified information regarding the incident.

The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to a video currently circulating on social media regarding the protest at the APC Secretariat.

“We wish to state categorically that the Party Chairman was neither molested nor harassed at any point during the incident. Furthermore, the Chairman was not present at the APC Secretariat at the time the event occurred.

“While the party recognizes and respects the constitutional right of individuals to express their grievances through lawful means, all members and supporters are reminded that any form of protest must be conducted in accordance with the law and with due regard for public order, party discipline, and the collective interest of our great party.

“It is also important to note that the primary election process has been concluded. The party’s internal mechanisms for addressing grievances and resolving issues arising from the exercise are already in place. We therefore encourage all aggrieved persons to utilize these established channels in the interest of unity, fairness, and the continued progress of the party.

“We further urge all party members and stakeholders to remain calm, exercise restraint, and refrain from actions or statements capable of causing unnecessary tension or misrepresenting the facts surrounding the incident.

We urge members of the public, party faithful, and the media to disregard any misleading narratives and rely solely on information disseminated through official party channels.”
