The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has called for deeper cooperation among global and local law enforcement agencies in the ongoing battle against transnational organized crime. Speaking during strategic engagements with police leaders from across the world at the World Police Summit in Dubai, the Nigerian police chief stressed the urgency of intelligence sharing and joint operational strategies.
This was revealed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who noted that the IGP underscored the increasing complexity of modern criminal networks and the necessity for law enforcement bodies to adapt by working closely across borders. He pointed to intelligence-driven operations, timely exchange of information, and strong inter-agency ties as key elements in addressing today’s cross-border threats.
The Nigerian police boss acknowledged the contributions of INTERPOL member nations in advancing shared security objectives, citing their collaboration with INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in Nigeria as pivotal in dismantling numerous syndicates operating within and beyond West Africa. He also referenced recent joint missions that successfully disrupted trafficking networks, and cybercrime cells, and apprehended wanted individuals.
Dr. Egbetokun reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to global law enforcement efforts, pledging the support of the Nigeria Police Force in advancing public safety through international partnerships.
The summit concludes today, May 15, with a closing dinner attended by prominent figures, including IGP Egbetokun; Vice President of INTERPOL Africa, AIG Garba Baba Umar (Rtd.); Ethiopia’s Police Commissioner General, Demelash Michael Weldeyes; Senegal’s Inspector-General of Police, General Mame Seydou Ndour; and Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri. CP Uche Ifeanyi, head of Nigeria’s Cybercrime Centre, also graced the event alongside other high-ranking security officials from around the globe.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the People of Determination Excellence Award to Adele Gesso, a wheelchair-using officer recognized for her remarkable courage and dedication. Her recognition reflected the summit’s inclusive spirit and commitment to human dignity in policing.
