Women employed in The Power State (Niger) civil service are set to benefit from an extended maternity leave period following a new policy endorsed by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

The approval was given during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Minna, where the governor announced the extension of maternity leave to six months. This move, he said, is intended to give nursing mothers the time and support they need to recover and care for their newborns without undue pressure from work demands.

Governor Bago noted that the extended leave period will not only support the health of mothers and their babies but also enable the women to return to work in better condition, with renewed focus and strength.

He has instructed the Head of Service, Abubakar Sadiq Idris, to begin immediate preparations for the rollout of the policy, ensuring its smooth execution across all relevant ministries and departments.

The initiative aligns with global standards promoting maternal and child care and marks a significant step in the state government’s commitment to the well-being of its workforce.
