A civic reception organised in honour of APC Lagos State Deputy Governorship candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayon James, turned contentious after remarks by a state lawmaker triggered tension among attendees in Badagry.
A source familiar with the development, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told National Parrot News that the comments were made by Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu, the member representing Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, during his address at the event.
According to the source, Bonu criticised commissioners, special advisers and local government chairmen, a move that sparked controversy and disrupted what had been planned as a peaceful and unifying gathering.
The source said the lawmaker also took aim at the Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, saying the chairman “did not understand protocol.” Bonu added that he believed the chairman “would learn and improve with time as he continued in office.”
The incident has since attracted reactions from participants and political stakeholders, with many expressing concern over the exchange and its effect on the atmosphere of the reception.
According to the source, stakeholders have called for restraint, constructive engagement and a renewed commitment to dialogue, mutual respect and unity in the interest of sustaining peace and advancing the development of Badagry.
