The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that 286,697 applicants have been shortlisted for the next stage of its ongoing recruitment exercise, which was advertised nationwide on December 27, 2024.
The Service said it received a total of 573,523 applications for the 3,927 declared vacancies in the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. It stated that following documentary scrutiny, 286,697 candidates scaled through to the next round of the exercise.
According to the NCS, the second stage of the process will hold from September 14 to 21 and will be conducted through an online Computer-Based Test (CBT).
The Service explained that shortlisted candidates are expected to take the test at any location with reliable internet access, but only through a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and full-screen display, as the application is not mobile phone-enabled. It further stressed that facial verification will be carried out during login, urging candidates to appear neat to avoid recognition challenges.
The NCS added that the CBT application is sensitive to noise and movement, warning that excessive motion, whispering or background distractions could lead to automatic logout. It cautioned that switching between windows during the test would be flagged as malpractice and may attract disqualification.
To aid candidates, the Service said it has introduced a mandatory pre-test session to be held two days before the actual CBT. It explained that shortlisted applicants will receive two links — one for the pre-test and another for the main examination. It also disclosed that candidates for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will sit for an additional CBT in the next phase, while the provision will not apply to the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
The NCS assured the public that the recruitment remains merit-based and transparent. It said successful applicants would be informed of subsequent stages through its official communication channels, and advised candidates to rely solely on verified platforms for authentic updates.
The Service emphasized that it will not demand any form of payment or conduct recruitment activities on social media platforms.
