In its effort to improve access to justice in the country, the Federal Government has approved the establishment of a Court of Appeal in Ogun State (the Gateway State).
This was disclosed by the sitting Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, through his official social media page.
Governor Abiodun described the approval as a milestone that would reduce the burden on the Ibadan Division and ensure quicker dispensation of justice.
“We are pleased to announce that the Federal Government has formally approved the establishment of the Court of Appeal in Abeokuta, a milestone that we proudly championed to bring justice closer to our people. This development will ensure quicker dispensation of justice, ease the heavy caseload on the Ibadan Division, and further strengthen the foundation of fairness in our dear state,” he wrote.
The governor said his administration would continue to support the judiciary with resources to enhance their work, while also prioritizing the welfare of judicial officers.
“As a government, we recognize that justice is the bedrock of every prosperous society. We will continue to support our judiciary with the necessary resources, prioritize the welfare of judicial officers, and make adequate provisions to enhance their efficiency. Our commitment remains to uphold the integrity of the legal system, sustain the independence of the judiciary, and entrench democratic ideals for the growth and stability of Ogun State,” he added.
Governor Abiodun also praised the Chief Judge and other judicial officers for their commitment to reforms in the state’s justice system.
“We commend the Chief Judge and all judicial officers for their tireless reforms and dedication in keeping Ogun State a beacon of the legal profession. Together, we will continue to build a system where the scales of justice remain balanced, the vulnerable are protected, and the rule of law thrives for the good of all,” he said.
