The Osun State Government has suspended all official dealings with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) as disputes and leadership tussles continue to trail the body.
The decision was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Oluomo Kolapo Alimi.
The government expressed worry over the worsening feud within the council, with disputes linked to leadership control and questions surrounding the handling of allocated resources. In response, a three-member investigative committee made up of independent nominees has been set up to examine the issues.
Pending the outcome of the probe, the state said it would act in line with a directive earlier issued by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to ministries and stakeholders in the youth sector towards the end of 2025.
The ministry had informed stakeholders that the Corporate Affairs Commission had withdrawn the certificate of registration of the NYCN and that official engagements with the national leadership had been stopped due to persistent infighting, factionalisation and confrontations.
With the Osun chapter now facing a similar situation, the government said the suspension of dealings would remain until the investigation is concluded.
The state government also dismissed what it described as attempts by opposition elements to politicise developments within the youth sector, assuring residents that steps already taken would restore order, openness and accountability.
