The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has suspended the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Adewale Egbedun, over allegations of misconduct and disregard for leadership.
Announcing the decision at a press briefing in Ibadan, Oyo State, the Chairman of the Conference, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin expressed dismay over Egbedun’s reported treatment of a traditional ruler, describing it as disrespectful and unbecoming of a public servant.
“Our Association consists of well-cultured citizens of Nigeria, and we cannot allow one individual’s actions to tarnish the image of our organization,” Ogundoyin stated.
The suspension, according to the chairman, will remain in effect pending the outcome of an investigation into a petition filed by the traditional ruler with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Zone XXI.
Egbedun has yet to issue a public response to the development.
