A Brazilian couple has earned global recognition after setting a new Guinness World Records title with 195 kisses in 30 seconds.
Guinness World Records announced that Renato Bayma Gaia and his girlfriend, Naiara Roberta Ribeiro de Marins, both from Brazil, secured the title for the most kisses in 30 seconds by a pair. The achievement came shortly after this year’s International Kissing Day celebration.
The couple, both medical doctors who served on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic, said they pursued the record because they believe they are the “best couple in the world.” They have been in a relationship for one and a half years.
For Renato, 32, the latest accomplishment adds to a growing list of Guinness World Records titles. He previously set records for the fastest time to set up and topple 10 books in 6.68 seconds and the largest foot rotation by a male at 210.66 degrees. He said the new title also gave him the opportunity to have Naiara’s name appear alongside his in the Guinness World Records books.
Renato, a black belt in taekwondo, described himself as someone who is “addicted to winning.” Wearing the jersey of his favourite football club, São José E.C., he completed the record attempt by planting rapid kisses on Naiara’s cheek while she smiled throughout the challenge.
The pair have already fixed their sights on another title. They hope to claim the record for the most kisses in one minute by a pair, a mark currently held by Japan’s Cherry Yoshitake, also known as Mr Cherry, and Kumiko Shiratori with 277 kisses.
Speaking on what drives him, Renato said, “I am a bone marrow donor, and I have ADHD and I want to prove that people with ADHD are capable of everything they want.”
He also said he hopes his achievements will spread positive messages and encourage more people in Brazil to take part in Guinness World Records challenges.
