The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has announced the withdrawal of the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

According to a statement issued by the Ministry and signed by Omolara Esan, Director of Information and Public Relations, the announcement followed an official correspondence from the CAC dated October 6, 2025.

The Commission explained that the decision was made under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, after a thorough investigation into the Council’s operations.

The CAC noted that the NYCN had been engulfed in a leadership tussle for over 18 years. Upon reviewing the Council’s records and governance structure, the Commission uncovered several breaches of both the NYCN Constitution and CAMA 2020, particularly Sections 833 and 834. As a result, all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and management within the organization have been nullified.

To restore order, the CAC has set up an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to run the affairs of the NYCN for one year, effective from October 6, 2025.

The Ministry, which serves as the supervisory body for the NYCN, stated that it recognizes the CAC’s legal authority to take such action under CAMA 2020. It urged all youth stakeholders, member groups, and affiliates to cooperate with the IMC during the restructuring phase.

“This exercise is aimed at restoring unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to the NYCN, in line with its founding ideals,” the statement read.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a transparent and accountable youth governance structure that supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
