The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day celebration across the country.

The was contained in a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended congratulations to Nigerian workers in recognition of the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.

He praised workers for their commitment and contribution to national development, noting that their efforts remain central to the country’s progress and economic stability.

The Minister urged workers to sustain a strong sense of patriotism, higher productivity, and dedication in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing that these values are important for long-term national development.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare and safety of workers while creating an environment that supports economic growth and stability.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to maintain peace and adhere to the law, urging citizens to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity, diligence, and nation-building.
