Abuja — Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to reposition Nigeria’s cocoa sector, pledging a comprehensive turnaround that would elevate the country from a raw material supplier to a key player in global cocoa processing.
He made this known on Monday at the Presidential Villa during a meeting with a delegation from the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), led by its President, Mr. Chris Vincent.
Shettima stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is focused on overhauling the cocoa industry as part of broader efforts to strengthen agriculture and make it a cornerstone of the national economy. According to him, the government is taking concrete steps to promote sustainable cocoa cultivation while protecting the nation’s forest reserves.
The Vice President expressed confidence that the country can restore its standing as a leading cocoa producer, stressing that the revival of the sector aligns with the administration’s larger plan for revitalizing agriculture across various commodity chains.
He also noted that the current leadership is committed to long-term solutions that would bring lasting impact to farmers, processors, and the wider economy.
“The administration is putting all necessary measures in place to ensure that Nigeria moves beyond primary production by promoting sustainable cocoa farming and forest preservation.
“We can reclaim our lost glory, and the President remains fully committed to revitalizing not just the cocoa industry, but all agricultural value chains across the country,” VP Shettima said.
