The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a financial incentive to anyone who can present credible evidence that any candidate was posted to an examination Centre outside their chosen town.
This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Board’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin. He explained that the move aims to counter persistent misinformation alleging that candidates are assigned to Centres far from their preferred locations.
Dr. Benjamin clarified that every candidate selects their examination town during registration, and is allocated a Centre within that town. He emphasized that JAMB remains committed to ensuring candidates write their examinations within their chosen areas, describing claims to the contrary as unfounded and mischievous.
“The Board has thrown open a challenge to the public. Anyone with verifiable proof that a candidate was posted outside their selected town should forward such evidence within 96 hours to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) via WhatsApp number 08056003030,” he said.
He added that an independent body would assess any evidence submitted and ensure that the promised reward is delivered if the claim is authenticated.
Drawing a parallel, Benjamin said just as airlines require passengers to arrive at airports hours ahead of departure, candidates are advised to arrive at their CBT Centres 90 minutes before the examination to allow time for preliminary verification processes.
He appealed to parents and guardians to appreciate the necessary procedures involved in the examination process, noting that expecting candidates to complete a two-hour examination without factoring in administrative checks reflects a lack of understanding.
In a lighter moment, Benjamin recounted the story of a candidate who failed to answer any questions during the examination, believing that doing nothing would attract divine intervention, as instructed by her grandfather. He urged candidates to prepare adequately and reject superstitions that promise success without effort.
JAMB reaffirmed its dedication to conducting credible examinations and called on members of the public to disregard false narratives aimed at discrediting its operations.
