The Centre of Excellence State (Lagos) is preparing to become the launching ground for Catchball in Nigeria, as part of a broader plan to expand opportunities for youth involvement in sports.

The State Political Head (Commissioner) in the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, made this known following a high-level meeting with Engineer Bola Babarinde, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Catchball Federation. Also present at the meeting were Orimoloye Damilare, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, and officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission.

Catchball, a team sport gaining popularity across several African countries, is now being introduced to Nigeria with Lagos taking the lead.

Commissioner Ogunlende described the initiative as a welcome addition to the state’s sports development strategy. He noted that Lagos is keen to tap into new opportunities that can broaden the scope of engagement and job creation for the youth population.

“This first phase marks the beginning of a strategic effort to integrate Catchball into our local sports ecosystem – creating avenues not just for participation but also for meaningful engagement and employment for our youths,” Ogunlende stated.
