President Bola Tinubu has unveiled NINAuth, a new mobile application by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) that allows citizens to monitor and control the use of their National Identification Number (NIN).

The application enables users to grant, review, or revoke access to their NIN data, ensuring stronger protection against unauthorized use while promoting personal control over digital identity.

Speaking at the official launch in Abuja, President Tinubu said the initiative marks a new phase in Nigeria’s digital identity management, placing the country on par with technologically advanced nations. He said the move aligns with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises transparent and accountable governance through the use of technology.

“Today’s launch of the NINAuth App signals an important milestone in our national identity journey. A credible and inclusive identity management system is key to achieving our developmental goals. It supports financial inclusion, improves social welfare delivery, strengthens our security framework, and ensures accurate population data for effective planning,” the President said.

The President explained that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) will soon adopt the NINAuth App for staff and data verification. He added that the platform will reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, improve service access, and promote public trust in governance.

“With NINAuth, we are simplifying access, reducing interference, and closing the gaps where inefficiency and corruption thrive.

“Every Nigerian and legal resident will benefit from a unified database that enhances electoral integrity, improves healthcare access, and promotes equitable distribution of resources,” he said

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the development underscores the administration’s commitment to security and digital transformation, describing identity as the backbone of governance and national security.

NIMC Director General, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the application provides real-time data authentication for individuals and businesses, eliminating multiple data ownership and streamlining verification processes. She disclosed that over 126.7 million Nigerians have been enrolled, with about 25 million registrations recorded in the last two years and an average of 1.3 million verification hits daily.

The NINAuth App is now available for download, offering every Nigerian–from roadside vendors to large enterprises–a simpler, safer way to manage identity verification and protect personal data.
