The Federal Government has agreed with South Korea to establish an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Nigeria, a move aimed at advancing clean energy adoption and expanding the country’s industrial base.
The development was disclosed by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Minister of State for Industry, John Enoh, and representatives of the Asia Economic Development Committee (AEDC) of South Korea.
Under the agreement, both parties are to work towards setting up facilities that will support electric vehicle production, with a focus on technology transfer, investment promotion, human capital development, and research, design, and innovation.
“The project will be implemented in phases, beginning with EV assembly and expanding into full in-house production,” the disclosure stated.
It added that the proposed plant is projected to have a production capacity of about 300,000 vehicles, while creating roughly 10,000 jobs for Nigerians when fully operational.
The partnership is expected to position Nigeria as a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles in Africa, while strengthening skills development and industrial growth within the country.
