The Nigerian Navy has announced the commencement of its 2026 recruitment exercise for Batch 39, with applications opening on October 2.
The recruitment window will remain open until October 31, 2026, with the Navy stressing that the application process is free and applicants should not pay anyone.
Interested candidates are expected to apply through the Navy’s recruitment portal, www.joinnigeriannavy.navy.mil.ng, while only one valid application will be accepted from each applicant.
The Navy warned that multiple applications would result in disqualification, urging candidates to complete the process through the designated platform.
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a National Identification Number (NIN), and meet the prescribed physical, medical and character requirements.
Male applicants must be at least 1.69 metres tall, while female applicants must be at least 1.65 metres. Candidates must also be medically, psychologically and physically fit and have no previous criminal conviction by a court.
For candidates applying with O’Level or SSCE qualifications, the age bracket is 18 to 22 years as of December 31, 2026. They are required to have at least five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, in not more than two sittings.
The Navy said qualifying WAEC, NECO, GCE or NABTEB results for this category must not be older than 2020.
Applicants with OND or NCE qualifications must be between 18 and 26 years, while candidates seeking positions as Chaplain/Imam Assistants, Drivers or Mechanics may be between 18 and 28 years.
For these categories, candidates must also have at least five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, in not more than two sittings, with the specified examination results not older than 2015.
The recruitment also covers trades including tailoring, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, welding, electrical work, painting, and refrigeration and air-conditioning technology.
Candidates in the trades category are required to have relevant Trade Test certificates, a credit in English Language and at least four passes in other subjects, with qualifying examination results not later than 2017.
Those applying for professions allied to medicine must possess an ND from a recognised training centre in Nigeria and a valid practising licence, while sportsmen and women are expected to provide evidence of their experience, including certificates and medals.
The Navy also stated that proficiency in English Language is mandatory.
“All applicants must be proficient in the use of English Language,” the Navy said, adding that inability to communicate in basic English Language “shall lead to disqualification at any stage of the Recruitment process.”
Applicants are expected to print their acknowledgement, parent/guardian consent, Local Government attestation and guarantor’s certification forms after completing their online applications.
The Navy said the date and venues for the recruitment examination would be announced later.
Successful candidates will undergo basic military training and, after completion, be recruited into the Nigerian Navy as Ordinary Seamen.
The Navy urged applicants to rely on its recruitment portal for further information and warned against making payments to individuals in connection with the exercise.
