The Nigeria Police Force has ordered a nationwide enforcement operation against vehicles operating without registration number plates or with concealed, altered, defaced, or obscured registration details.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, following the monthly conference of strategic senior officers presided over by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Disu said the increasing number of vehicles plying roads without proper registration or with deliberately hidden number plates poses a major challenge to public safety and national security.

He noted that vehicle registration plays a key role in crime prevention, intelligence gathering and law enforcement, stressing that criminals often take advantage of anonymous vehicles to commit offences and escape identification.

The police chief directed Commissioners of Police, Tactical Commanders and Heads of Formations across the country to begin immediate enforcement against such violations.

Under the directive, vehicles found without approved registration plates or with tampered registration details will be stopped, impounded and processed in line with existing laws.

He urged vehicle owners to comply with registration requirements, warning that there would be no preferential treatment in the enforcement of the directive.

The Force reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public safety, supporting national security efforts and enforcing lawful measures aimed at preventing crime and protecting citizens.
