The Nigeria Police Force has recorded breakthroughs in separate operations in Kogi (The Confluence State) and Abia (God’s Own State), rescuing trafficked children and seizing a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
In The Confluence State (Kogi), a patrol team intercepted a green Sharon vehicle that defied a stop-and-search checkpoint, sparking a high-speed chase. The driver eventually abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the bush. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm, and two rounds of 7.62x59mm. Investigators are working to track down the fleeing suspect, believed to be linked to a recent robbery incident at a fuel station in Kabba.
Meanwhile, in the God’s Own State (Abia), two suspects were arrested in connection with the operation of an unlicensed orphanage within a residential building on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba. Acting on a tip-off, police operatives apprehended Blessing Emebo, 49, and Sunday Emebo, 42, and uncovered twelve children aged between six months and fourteen years. Preliminary findings indicate the children were taken from different communities in the Arochukwu area. They have since been transferred to the care of the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the swift action of officers involved in both cases. He reiterated the Force’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and safeguard vulnerable groups. He also urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious movements or persons to law enforcement agencies.
The arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
