Ogun State has welcomed a major milestone in its healthcare and industrial landscape with the commissioning of a new facility by Codix Bio Pharmaceutical Company.

The plant, situated along the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway, is designed for the production of diagnostic and treatment kits for diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases, and is expected to serve not just Nigeria but other parts of the African continent.

The project is supported through a technology transfer initiative backed by the World Health Organization and includes Nigeria’s first large-scale Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) manufacturing plant. The development reflects growing investor interest in Ogun State and highlights the state’s appeal as a destination for high-impact health-sector projects.

Codix Bio also plans to expand its footprint by setting up a contract manufacturing arm and developing a support framework for diagnostic components, which is anticipated to strengthen Ogun’s manufacturing capabilities.

The Gateway State Governor, Dapo Abiodun emphasized his administration’s ongoing drive to develop local capacity, noting partnerships with institutions such as the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. He also pointed to reforms including the elevation of the School of Nursing into a degree-awarding college, as part of wider efforts to prepare the state’s youth for careers in health and related sectors.

“Efforts to overhaul over 100 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state are ongoing, with the aim of ensuring that each ward has access to a functional, well-equipped facility” he added.

The governor expressed optimism that the partnership with Codix Bio exemplifies how public and private collaboration can foster improved healthcare and economic development.

This development signals another step in Ogun’s broader ambition to position itself as a center for knowledge-driven growth and improved public welfare.
