The Governor of Ogun State, The Gateway State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, says the installation of Senator Oluremi Tinubu as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua stands as a worthy recognition of her commitment to the Yoruba people and Nigeria.

He said the honour reflects her record of commitment, character and support for national progress.

The governor made this known in a statement from his office, which formed part of tributes at the event held in Ile-Ife.

Abiodun said the ceremony marked the celebration of a woman whose support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the country has remained steady over the years.

He stated that her values, compassion and work across communities continue to inspire many. He added that the government and people of Ogun State identify with the honour and pray for strength and fulfilment for the First Lady in her new role.

The text reads: “We are delighted to join the entire Yoruba nation in celebrating Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, OON, CON, on her installation today as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife.

“We were honoured to witness this historic event in Ile-Ife, and we are proud to identify with this well-deserved recognition. Your life of service, humility and unwavering commitment to the progress of our nation continues to inspire us. You have stood as a steadfast pillar beside our leader and President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, offering strength, wisdom and support in ways that have shaped both his journey and the destiny of our country.

“We celebrate you as a true pride of womanhood, a symbol of grace, and a mother whose influence transcends borders. Your passion for uplifting communities, nurturing values and promoting unity within the Yoruba race is deeply admired.

“On behalf of the government and people of Ogun State, we rejoice with you on this royal honour. We pray that God grants you continued strength, favour and fulfilment as you carry out your noble responsibilities.

Congratulations, Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua. We are truly proud of you, ma.”

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, installed Senator Tinubu as the Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua at Afewonro Park, Enuwa Square, during the grand finale of activities marking his 10th coronation anniversary.

Traditional rites were carried out before the conferment, which drew dignitaries from across Nigeria.

During the ceremony, the Ooni expressed deep appreciation to Senator Tinubu for what he described as long-standing support.

“She is the mother of the nation. Exactly 10 years ago, on the 7th of December 2015, she stood by me through thick and thin… Today is not a day for long speeches, but I must sincerely thank President Bola Tinubu for his support and thank all of you for standing by our mother. She is indeed a merciful mother,” he said.

In her remarks, Senator Tinubu said the honour left her grateful. “The joy of the nation has come, and we are just beginning to celebrate. God has assured us that 2026 will be a year of joy, honour, and restoration, a year in which everyone will partake in renewed glory,” she added.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also spoke at the event. “You have come to where you should belong. Continue your good works wherever you go… I am grateful to God that I witnessed the beginning of Ooni Ogunwusi’s reign and that I am here again to celebrate his 10th anniversary,” he said.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, praised the First Lady’s role in national development and highlighted the Ooni’s decade of leadership.

“In 10 years, Kabiyesi has redefined leadership, using his exalted stool to promote peace, unity, and progress,” he said.

The ceremony drew an extensive list of royal fathers, political leaders and influential women, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; and the former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.
