The Olorunda Local Council Development Area has commenced a three-day Independence Day palliative outreach targeting more than 200 senior citizens, widows and widowers across the council.

The exercise, led by the wife of the council’s Chairman m, Mrs. Folashade Ajose, began today under the Renewed Hope Independence Palliative programme, with beneficiaries receiving food items and cash support in their homes and communities.

The first phase covered residents in Ward B—Ibereko, and Ward C—Mowo-Aradagun, as the initiative extended relief to vulnerable residents as part of activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Day.

Mrs. Ajose said the celebration provided an opportunity to reach out to residents who remain an important part of the community.

“It is Independence, and I want to spread love and show that everyone is important. The elderly, widows and widowers are an important part of our community, and we must continue to show them that they are remembered and cared for,” she declared.

She said the intervention reflected the people-centered approach of the administration of Hon. Peter Ajose, stressing that residents across different age groups should feel the impact of government programmes.

According to her, every citizen, whether young or old, should have a sense of belonging and benefit from the programmes and interventions of the administration.

The outreach is expected to continue in other wards of Olorunda LCDA over the next two days, with more senior citizens, widows and widowers scheduled to receive the food and financial support.
