The Sunshine State (Ondo) Government has announced plans to revive long-abandoned public projects across the state, with particular attention to structures left uncompleted by past administrations. The effort is part of a broader push to reshape the landscape of Akure, the state capital.
This renewed commitment was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Ebenezer Adeniyan, who stated that one of the key projects set for rehabilitation is the Banquet Complex at Alagbaka, initiated under former Governor Olusegun Agagu nearly two decades ago but left unfinished since 2007.
During a recent visit to the site, located near the Governor’s Office, the Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Abiola Olawoye said the government is reassessing the original contract awarded for the complex. He explained that the resurgence of development in the Alagbaka GRA area has brought renewed attention to the project.
Olawoye emphasized that determining the current condition of the structure is a priority.
“The site is already being cleared in preparation for a structural integrity assessment, which will guide the next steps for its completion and eventual use,” he added.
The administration has reiterated its intention to repurpose valuable public assets and reduce the financial burden of wasted infrastructure.
