The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has stepped up public awareness campaigns to strengthen integrity and discourage corrupt practices across the state.
The disclosure was contained in a press statement issued by the Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Information following the 2026 African Anti-Corruption Day celebration held on Friday at the agency’s premises in Ibadan.
Addressing participants, the Executive Secretary of OYACA, Dr. Folasade Ajibade, said corruption remains a major challenge to sustainable development, economic growth, democratic governance, and social justice across the African continent.
Speaking on the theme, “Scaling-Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Actions Across Africa,” Ajibade explained that this year’s observance is aimed at sustaining the foundation integrity of ethical leadership, transparency, accountability and the rule of law.
She said Integrity, transparency, and accountability are essential pillars for sustainable development and good governance.
Ajibade stated that the agency has made progress in enforcing ethical standards, revealing that it had secured judgments against erring civil servants in Oyo State.
She also praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and good governance in the state.
Delivering the guest lecture, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, Professor John Akintayo, called for stronger frameworks and shared responsibility in tackling corruption.
He said effective anti-corruption efforts require the active participation of government institutions, private sector, civil society, and citizens, adding that integrity must be embraced by individuals and institutions alike to achieve meaningful and lasting progress.
The event also reaffirmed OYACA’s resolve to sustain public advocacy, enlightenment programmes and reforms aimed at promoting accountability and building a corruption-free Oyo State.
Among those present were the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Wasiu Alimi, Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Tajudeen Azeez, Chief Legal Officer, Mrs. Eto-Abasi Olayanju, alongside other officials.
