In a statement signed by the Chair of the Oyo State Justice of the Peace Committee (OYSJP), members of the public were invited to obtain application forms after paying a fee of ₦10,000 into the designated government account with Eco Bank.

Applicants are required to present their payment receipts at Room 14 of the Accounts Section, Ministry of Justice, Secretariat, Ibadan, before proceeding to Room 1 of the Mediation Centre within the Ministry to collect their forms and obtain further details.

Screening for prospective candidates is scheduled to hold on August 21, 2025, at the Mediation Centre Conference Room, Secretariat, Ibadan, starting from 9:00 am. Candidates are expected to appear with a valid identity card, passport photograph, payment receipt, and other relevant documents.

The government explained that only successful applicants will be required to pay the conferment fee of ₦100,000.

“All those who have paid and collected the application form since 2024 will also be included in the current exercise. No need to reapply,” the statement noted.

A Justice of the Peace, according to the government, is a respected community leader appointed by the State “to support justice delivery, maintain peace, and assist in civic responsibilities.”

Some of the functions of a JP include attestation and endorsement of documents, mediation in community disputes, voluntary support in minor judicial and civic matters, as well as enjoying elevated public recognition and leadership status.

Other benefits outlined are eligibility for appointment to certain State boards and tribunals, alongside opportunities “to contribute meaningfully to governance and justice reform.”

The conferment, the statement added, is suitable for religious leaders, professionals, business owners, and community influencers.
