The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a five-year-old girl unharmed and arrested two suspected kidnappers after a sustained intelligence-driven operation in Ibadan.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on behalf of the Oyo State Police Command.

The rescued child, Miss Fikayo Gbemiga, was abducted from her family’s residence in the Iyana Offa area of Ibadan on July 3, 2026. Following the incident, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad launched an extensive investigation, deploying technology and other investigative tools to trace those behind the crime.

The operation reached a breakthrough on July 11, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m., when detectives tracked the suspects to their hideout in the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan. The victim was rescued safely about five minutes later, while the suspects were taken into custody before they could move the child to another location.

Police identified the suspects as Adegboye Seyi Sunday, 37, and Adegboye Elijah Adefemi, 25. Preliminary findings showed they allegedly gained unlawful access to the complainant’s residence, abducted the child and demanded a ransom of ₦10 million for her release.

The Command also disclosed that investigations revealed the suspects had collected ₦1 million as part payment of the ransom at Gbongan in Osun State on July 8, 2026, during negotiations with the victim’s family. Detectives are working to recover the money and arrest other members of the criminal group still at large.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, said the Command remains resolute in its determination to rid Oyo State of kidnapping and other violent crimes through intelligence-led policing and robust collaboration with members of the public.

The Commissioner urged residents to stay alert and support security efforts by volunteering useful information to law enforcement agencies. He assured members of the public that every useful intelligence will be treated with utmost confidentiality and acted upon promptly.
