The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday honoured two outstanding officers with new ranks, while also holding discussions with pension officials on improving the post-service conditions of police personnel.
ACP Aliyu Shaba and CSP Sentome Obi, who emerged as Police Officers of the Year in 2023 and 2024, respectively, were decorated by the IGP at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Egbetokun described their elevation as a reflection of the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to recognise officers who have shown consistent commitment to duty. He also reiterated the Force Management’s decision to recommend for accelerated promotion any officer who wins the Police Officer of the Year award, earns the IGP Commendation Award, or clinches a category award in two consecutive years.
“The doors of honour and recognition are wide open,” the IGP said, “but they are only accessible through hard work, professionalism, excellence, and service discipline.”
In a related event, the IGP received senior officials of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), led by its Director-General, Ms. Omolola B. Oluworaran, along with Mr. Kolade Morakinyo, Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited. The team visited the Force Headquarters for an extended interactive session attended by officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner and above.
The session focused on concerns raised by both serving and retired personnel over pension-related issues. Egbetokun expressed optimism that ongoing efforts would soon improve the conditions of retired officers.
He also restated the Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel, emphasizing the need for a police force that is competent, accountable, and driven by service to the public.
