The Centre of Excellence (Lagos State) Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on workers to remain patient and united as the country undergoes sweeping reforms aimed at building a more just and inclusive society.
Speaking during the 2025 Workers’ Day parade in Lagos, the governor acknowledged the toll of recent economic challenges but assured that ongoing national efforts led by President Bola Tinubu are gradually yielding results. “Reforms can be slow and sometimes uncomfortable,” he said. “But we must stay together and stay the course. The signs of progress are beginning to emerge,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu used the occasion to reiterate his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers across Lagos State. He stated that the government has maintained consistent salary payments, ensured prompt pension disbursements, and expanded access to professional training opportunities.
He stressed that Lagos continues to set the pace in public service because it places a premium on the dignity and dedication of its workforce.
“Every worker deserves to be recognised, supported, and treated with respect,” the governor said.
This year’s celebration, themed ‘Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship’, highlighted the resilience of the Nigerian worker and the role of labour in shaping national development.
As the event drew to a close, Sanwo-Olu delivered a personal message of solidarity to the state’s workforce. “I see you. I celebrate you. I stand with you,” he said.
Workers across various sectors gathered at the parade ground, marking the day with enthusiasm and calls for continued partnership between labour and government in addressing the economic realities confronting the nation.
