The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has signed a deal with the Presidential Committee on Campaign Against Social Vices in Secondary and Tertiary Institutions to curb corruption and other misconduct in the academic environment.
The agreement was reached in Abuja during a visit to the EFCC headquarters by the Committee led by its Chairman, Professor Jerry Ugokwe.
Represented by Commander CE Ibrahim Shazali, Director of Fraud Risks Assessment and Control, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede restated the Commission’s resolve to discourage vices in schools. He noted that integrity clubs in primary and secondary schools, alongside zero-tolerance clubs in higher institutions, were part of ongoing efforts to build a culture of accountability among young people.
He explained that preventive measures remain central to the Commission’s strategy, stressing the importance of sensitization and reorientation as cost-effective tools in reducing misconduct. He also highlighted the Commission’s willingness to work with stakeholders in tackling corruption, drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, alcoholism and related offences within the campuses.
Ugokwe, in his remarks, said building the right values among youths was critical to sustaining the fight against corruption. He outlined the Committee’s four areas of focus as awareness campaigns, capacity development, policy advocacy and support for enforcement.
He urged the EFCC to continue its programmes in schools, including sensitization exercises, anti-corruption clubs, essay competitions and media campaigns, which he said would strengthen the push against vices.
