Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a Sudanese man suspected of terrorism and detained a woman claiming to be a Ghanaian illegal immigrant in Borno State.
The military disclosed the development in a statement on Monday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni.
The arrests were made by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion during an intelligence-led security operation conducted at about 11:48 a.m. on July 19, 2026, in Lassa, Dille General Area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area of the state.
The military identified the first suspect as Musa Fashir, a 32-year-old Sudanese national, who is suspected to be a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator. Preliminary intelligence, the statement said, points to links between the suspect and terrorist elements operating in the region, raising fresh concerns over the involvement of foreign nationals in the insurgency.
Troops also took into custody Mary Florence, 36, who claimed to be an illegal immigrant from the Republic of Ghana. The military said investigators are working to verify her identity and determine the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area.
Both suspects are undergoing profiling and interrogation to establish their identities, determine the extent of their activities and uncover any links to terrorist groups or transnational criminal networks.
The statement said the arrests reflect the sustained pressure mounted by troops on terrorist networks through intelligence-led operations across the North East.
Operation HADIN KAI said it “remains resolute in its mandate to neutralise terrorists and dismantle their logistics, financing and support networks.”
The military also urged residents to support security agencies with credible and timely information, saying “collective vigilance remains critical to the restoration of lasting peace and security and stability in the North East.”
