Police and other security operatives recovered 171 domestic animals after repelling a bandit attack on Maikujera village in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Sokoto State Police Command disclosed the operation today through its spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, who said the rescue followed a swift response by security personnel to a distress call.
The command said armed bandits invaded the remote community at about 8:10 p.m. on August 4, firing sporadically before making away with 171 domestic animals, including camels, cows, sheep and goats.
It said the Divisional Police Officer, already on alert, mobilised tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the VCRU, to block the escape routes leading out of the village.
The statement said the joint security team engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee into a nearby forest and abandon all the rustled animals.
Commissioner of Police Hayatu Hassan Shaffa praised the officers and soldiers involved in the operation, saying their prompt action led to the recovery of all the animals.
“I urge all residents to continue cooperating with security forces by reporting suspicious activities promptly. We are actively pursuing the fleeing bandits and are determined to bring them to justice. Let us remain united and resilient in the face of these challenges. The Command will continue to deploy all available resources to ensure that Sokoto State remains safe and secure for all law-abiding citizens.”
