Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for a stronger partnership between Nigeria and the European Union (EU), urging both sides to move beyond diplomatic pledges and focus on tangible outcomes.
Shettima made this call during a meeting with a delegation from the EU, led by Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
“We must take our relationship beyond well-meaning declarations and deliver measurable results,” Shettima said during the meeting.
He emphasized the need for both the EU and African nations to fully explore their shared potential, particularly in driving the continent’s development.
“The EU and Africa must harness their collective strengths to unlock meaningful development across the continent,” he added.
While addressing the delegation, Shettima described the EU as a natural ally, noting its longstanding investments and support for Nigeria’s ongoing reform efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.
“The EU has remained a reliable partner in our journey. Its investments in Nigeria reflect a shared commitment to progress,” the Vice President stated.
He stressed that the time had come for the relationship to shift from expressions of goodwill to measurable progress that benefits both parties.
