President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the name of Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe to the Senate for confirmation as Minister of Power.

The nomination was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. It follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who left office to contest in an election.

Tegbe, who hails from Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience across public service and private sector roles, with a focus on fiscal and economic reforms.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led assignments covering fiscal policy reforms, governance, institutional restructuring, and regulatory advisory services for government agencies and private organisations.

At present, he serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership. In that role, he oversees bilateral coordination between Nigeria and China and supports development cooperation under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework.

His professional background also includes engagements in the electricity sector, with involvement in reforms linked to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

The Presidency said the nomination is expected to support ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve grid operations, and attract long-term investment in line with the administration’s policy direction.

The Senate is expected to screen the nominee in line with constitutional provisions.
