In preparation for President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Ibadan on Friday, the Ladoke Akintola Airport, on Wednesday, received its first flight since it was shut in March.

This was contained in a statement issued by Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser (Media) to Oyo State Governor, on September 24, 2025.

The aircraft, an advanced member of the presidential fleet, landed at exactly 9:14 a.m. to confirm the readiness of the upgraded airport for the President’s arrival. Tinubu is scheduled to attend the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

According to the statement, the test flight was conducted to ensure a smooth reception for the presidential entourage during the coronation ceremony.

It recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had in September 2024 flagged off the upgrade, noting that the project would connect Oyo State to global markets.

The governor had stated: “The upgrade of the airport is expected to enhance air travel operations and provide a reliable transportation network for both business and leisure travellers, positioning the state for economic growth and development.”

The release also highlighted other improvements carried out by the Makinde administration, including the refurbishment of the VIP lounge, provision of a fire truck, and installation of a 500,000-litre aviation fuel storage and dispensing facility.
