Prominent figures from the North Senatorial District of the Sunshine State (Ondo) have thrown their support behind Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, commending his performance in the early months of his administration, especially in roadworks and public infrastructure.
The delegation, led by former Senator Bode Olajumoke, visited the Governor at the Government House in Akure to express their views on governance and the prevailing security issues in the state.
Senator Olajumoke acknowledged the Governor’s efforts so far and urged him to ensure that all three senatorial districts receive fair attention in the distribution of projects. He also appealed for a more strategic approach to addressing security concerns, particularly in the northern part of the state.
He advised the Governor to be meticulous in selecting his remaining cabinet members, stressing the importance of competence and equity. On the matter of security, Olajumoke suggested investing in advanced equipment and leveraging modern technology to enhance the operations of the Amotekun Corps. He also called for the recruitment of additional personnel to improve the corps’ presence in rural and urban areas.
The elder statesman proposed the establishment of a Security Trust Fund through an Executive Bill, which, he noted, could attract better funding and coordination for internal safety efforts.
Olajumoke further lauded the government’s plan to convert Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and urged quick implementation of the transition process.
In response, Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked the visitors for their input and reiterated his administration’s focus on safeguarding the lives and property of residents. He announced that 115 military personnel would soon be deployed to the Akoko area to confront rising security threats.
He also promised to consider the Security Trust Fund idea and confirmed that plans were underway to strengthen the Amotekun Corps by bringing in more personnel.
Speaking on local matters, the Governor pledged to work closely with traditional rulers, recognizing their key role in community development and peacebuilding. He assured the group that the lingering conflict between Akungba and Idogun communities would receive prompt attention.
