The ministerial meeting of the Fourth Session of the Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council has ended in Dakar, Senegal, after discussions centred on major areas of cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal.
A statement issued by The Gambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the meeting, which concluded on June 11, reviewed bilateral programmes and commitments aimed at strengthening ties between the two neighbouring countries.
Speaking at the opening and closing sessions, The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie, restated his country’s resolve to deepen cooperation with Senegal and promote regional integration, peace, stability and shared prosperity. He stressed the need for continued engagement and joint efforts in tackling common challenges while expanding cooperation in key sectors.
Njie said the recommendations and decisions reached during the meeting should be implemented in ways that deliver tangible benefits to citizens of both nations.
“The recommendations and action points emerging from the Ministerial Meeting must be translated into concrete actions and measurable results that improve the lives and livelihoods of citizens in both countries,” he said.
Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, highlighted the strong relationship between the two countries and reaffirmed Senegal’s commitment to closer cooperation.
Niang noted that the ministerial session examined the draft report prepared by experts, sectoral roadmaps, agreements and commitments adopted under the Presidential Council framework. He said the exercise was aimed at providing guidance and recommendations for consideration by Presidents Adama Barrow of The Gambia and Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal.
The ministers also praised experts, senior government officials and technical teams from both countries for their role in preparing the draft report and priority sector roadmaps designed to support the implementation of bilateral commitments.
The meeting sets the stage for the Fourth Session of the Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council, where Presidents Barrow and Faye are expected to chart the next phase of cooperation between the two West African nations.
