A soldier declared wanted by the Nigerian Army over alleged supply of military accoutrements to terrorists has been arrested in Maiduguri while allegedly trying to escape to Cameroon.
Operation HADIN KAI announced the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni.
The statement identified the suspect as 23NA/84/1939 Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, Lagos. Troops of the 7 Provost Group arrested him at about 6:30 p.m. on July 25, 2026, at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri after acting on credible human intelligence. The Army had declared him wanted on July 23 over allegations of illegally supplying military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal elements.
Military authorities said preliminary findings showed that Yusuf absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026, before relocating to Maiduguri, where he allegedly went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the help of an associate.
The statement said the suspect is in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where investigators are working to determine the full scope of the alleged activities and identify any other persons connected with the case.
Operation HADIN KAI said, “there is no safe haven for individuals who support terrorism or any form of criminality, irrespective of their status”
The operation also urged residents to continue assisting security agencies with credible information, describing public cooperation as critical to restoring lasting peace and security across the North-East theatre.
