Northern Nigeria — Kaduna State has unveiled a five-year Family Planning Strategic Plan aimed at widening access to reproductive healthcare and improving the wellbeing of women and families.
The Kaduna State Ministry of Health announced the launch of the Kaduna State Family Planning Strategic Plan (2026-2030) and its Costed Implementation Plan, describing the initiative as a major step toward strengthening reproductive health services across the state.
Representing Governor Senator Uba Sani, CON, at the unveiling, Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe said the document reflects the government’s resolve to improve the lives of women, children and families through fair access to quality family planning services.
She said the Strategic Plan is more than a policy document “it is a commitment to improving the lives of women, children and families across Kaduna State through equitable access to quality family planning services.”
The deputy governor restated the government’s resolve to ensure every woman, regardless of her location, has access to accurate reproductive health information and quality family planning services. She also urged government agencies, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, healthcare workers, civil society groups and communities to work together for the successful delivery of the plan.
Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmed, expressed appreciation to the Gates Foundation and other technical partners for supporting the development of the strategic plan.
She said the roadmap gives priority to stronger service delivery, commodity security, healthcare worker capacity, sustainable financing, effective monitoring, and increased community awareness and demand for family planning services.
The ministry said the plan will support ongoing efforts to strengthen primary healthcare, reduce maternal and child mortality, empower families to make informed choices, and advance Universal Health Coverage across Kaduna State.
