Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his campaign for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Buhari made the declaration in a statement announcing his candidacy as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the Daura, Sandamu and Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State.
He said the mandate was both an honour and a call to service, stressing that his campaign would focus on engaging directly with constituents and understanding their concerns.
“I see it as a call to service and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development and progress of our constituency,” he said.
Buhari said he would personally visit communities across Daura, Sandamu and Mai’Adua, while meeting traditional and community leaders, women, youths, farmers, traders, professionals and other stakeholders.
He said the campaign would go beyond seeking votes, describing it as an opportunity to listen to the aspirations of the people and present a clear vision for representation.
A major part of his declaration was a call for restraint among supporters, with Buhari warning against conduct capable of disrupting peace during the electioneering period.
“Our campaign must be peaceful, responsible and respectful,” he said, urging supporters to shun violence, intimidation, provocation, hate speech, harassment, destruction of property and other acts capable of disturbing the peace of the constituency.
He also urged political supporters to maintain mutual respect despite their differences, saying political disagreements should not turn neighbours, friends and families against one another.
“We can disagree politically without becoming enemies. We can support different candidates without losing respect for one another,” he said.
Buhari appealed to constituents for their prayers, support, encouragement and trust as the campaign begins, while expressing confidence in a successful outing.
He concluded by declaring the campaign open and pledging to work with the people to build a better Daura, Sandamu and Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.
“Together, we shall win. Together, we shall serve. Together, we shall build a better Daura, Sandamu and Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.”
