The Nigeria Police Force has launched a fraud-reporting application and a nationwide communication network aimed at improving public reporting and police response.
The initiatives, known as the NPF Vigilant App and NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network, were unveiled on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at the NPF Conference Centre, Jabi, Abuja.
The Force said the Vigilant App was developed by its ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial-services sector to provide a direct channel for reporting suspected financial fraud.
Through the platform, users can submit complaints, upload supporting evidence, monitor the progress of their cases and receive feedback. The system is also designed to facilitate coordination with relevant agencies and organisations within existing laws and procedures.
The CUG Network, on the other hand, provides police personnel across the country with secure and affordable on-net communication, with the Force expecting the platform to strengthen emergency coordination and communication between commands and units.
Speaking at the launch, Disu described the two platforms as “another practical step in the Force’s digital-transformation drive,” saying the Vigilant App would strengthen engagement with the public while the CUG Network would improve communication within the Force.
He said both platforms were designed to make the Nigeria Police Force “more connected, responsive and effective.”
The IGP stressed that technology must be applied in policing within the law and with respect for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.
He also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to working with government agencies, financial-sector players and private-sector partners to improve public safety and national security.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, said the projects reflected the Force’s resolve to deploy technology-driven solutions to improve service delivery, support police personnel and deepen public engagement.
Mustapha urged Nigerians to download the Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly when reporting suspected financial fraud.
Representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, Police Service Commission, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, financial institutions, fintech companies, MTN Nigeria, Vigilant Technology Limited, TIMPH International Limited and other stakeholders attended the launch.
The Force said the projects were supported by collaboration among the participating agencies, technology firms and financial-sector stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen policing and public safety.
