The second phase of Olorunda LCDA’s Independence palliative outreach has taken food and cash support to senior citizens, widows and widowers in Ilogbo community and Araromi community.
The exercise, led by the wife of the council’s Chairperson, Mrs. Folashade Ajose, entered its second day under the Renewed Hope Independence Day Palliative programme, with beneficiaries in Ward D–Ilogbo, and Ward E–Araromi, receiving the support.
The three-day intervention is targeting more than 200 beneficiaries across selected wards as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, with particular attention to senior citizens, widows and widowers.
At the two wards, beneficiaries received food items and cash gifts while Mrs. Ajose also interacted with residents during the distribution.
The outreach is part of the welfare component of the administration of the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Peter Ajose, which the organizers said extends beyond physical projects to direct assistance for residents.
Speaking during the exercise, Mrs. Ajose stressed the need to remember vulnerable members of the community during the Independence celebration.
She said the occasion should reflect “care, inclusion and shared responsibility,” while highlighting the importance of supporting residents who may require assistance.
The Council First Lady was accompanied by the Chief of Staff and SA on Special Duties and Civic Engagement, Hon. Akinyele Cornelius; Deputy Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Alice Ambe; wife of the Vice Chairman, Mrs. Balikis Bolaji; Ward E Apex Leader, Alhaja Mustapha; ALGA Woman Leader, Mrs. Ashade Esther; and Ward E Woman Leader, Mrs. Oseni Shola.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the council leadership, saying the food items and cash support would provide assistance to their households.
The three-day exercise is expected to continue in other selected wards, taking the Independence Day relief programme to more residents within Olorunda LCDA.
