More than 200 youths from Badagry Division have secured employment in various Lagos State government agencies through the Badagry Division Youths Employment Initiative, a programme founded by Hon. Oluwafemi Mukaila, popularly known as HMO.
Mukaila disclosed that the initiative was established to expand access to job opportunities for young people in the division and reduce dependence on employment openings that often emerge during political cycles.
He explained that the programme serves as a link between qualified applicants and available vacancies within government establishments, drawing on relationships and partnerships developed over the years.
“We are doing this to assist our people because there is little support available in our area. Apart from occasional employment opportunities facilitated by elected representatives, many youths are left waiting for long periods before another opportunity comes,” he said.
He noted that the platform has grown into a sustained employment support scheme, helping graduates, diploma holders and other qualified candidates gain positions across different sectors of the Lagos State public service.
Mukaila revealed that about 300 applications were recently received following a fresh call for interested candidates seeking placement in government agencies.
“I have been reaching out to people in government agencies who can assist us and they have been responding positively. Deputy Governor Babafemi Hamzat has been supporting this effort for the past seven years,” Mukaila stated.
He added that while the initiative promotes vocational and technical training, it also creates opportunities for holders of O’Level certificates, NCE, OND, HND and university degrees to secure suitable employment.
In a notice issued through his social media platforms, Mukaila invited qualified indigenes of Badagry Division and its constituent local governments and local council development areas to submit their credentials for consideration.
The exercise is open to applicants from Badagry Central, Amuwo-Odofin, Ojo, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Olorunda LCDA, Badagry West LCDA, Otto-Awori LCDA, Iba LCDA, Oriade LCDA and Ifelodun LCDA.
Eligible candidates include university graduates, HND and OND holders, secondary school certificate holders, as well as licensed professionals such as nurses, engineers and lawyers interested in careers within public sector establishments.
Mukaila stressed that participation in the exercise attracts no fee and cautioned applicants against individuals seeking to exploit job seekers.
“We will never ask anyone to come to any location or pay any amount of money. This process is completely free,” the notice stated.
He urged prospective applicants to submit their details through the designated channels provided by the organisers, adding that support remains available through officials coordinating the programme.
