The Nigeria Police Force Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was honoured at a state banquet held on Saturday at the Lagos State House, Marina, marking his emergence as the 23rd indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The development was contained in a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, on behalf of the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, hosted the event, drawing top government functionaries, security chiefs, and other stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the police chief’s appointment.
Sanwo-Olu described the IGP as a product of Lagos, shaped by its communities and defined by commitment to service. He said the recognition also reflects Disu’s record, especially during his time as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in the state.
In his remarks, Disu expressed appreciation to the government and residents of Lagos for the reception, calling the event a homecoming. He reflected on his years of service in the state and restated his resolve to rebuild public trust, uphold professionalism, and deepen ties between the police and communities across the country.
He pledged closer cooperation between the police, the Lagos State Government, and other security partners, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, to sustain safety and stability. The police boss also urged Nigerians to support law enforcement, stressing that security requires joint effort from government, private organisations, civil society, and the public.
The ceremony underscored the long-standing ties between Lagos and the Inspector-General, with both sides highlighting a shared focus on service and national growth.
