Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced the establishment of a new voluntary security outfit, “Iru Ekun” Security Network, aimed at tackling terrorism, kidnapping and violent crimes in the South-West.
Speaking in a viral video circulating online, Igboho claimed the security outfit had been registered and presented to President Bola Tinubu for approval, as he called on Yoruba people across the world to unite in protecting their communities and forest reserves from criminal elements.
“I’m telling the Children of Yoruba across the world that the security outfit I established was ‘Iru Ekun’ security network and that I have registered it and I have presented it to the president and he has approved it,” he declared.
He said the outfit was formed as part of efforts to confront growing insecurity in Yoruba land, warning that criminal gangs must not be allowed to gain control of forests and communities in the region.
“I’m using this moment to encourage the Yoruba children to be brave. I want us to join hands together, to come together to flush our reserves because we must not give a chance to these people to take over our land,” he stated.
Igboho alleged that insecurity and terrorism were being fuelled by political interests seeking to create instability and discredit the administration of President Tinubu.
“It is a game they want to play, that is politics. That was how they did during Jonathan’s tenure, that they brought in Boko Haram to kidnap people, to frustrate the government,” he said.
“What they want to do is that they want to frustrate the government of Tinubu for them to be saying we see that everything is not okay, and even the Yoruba land is not at peace. It is we, the Yorubas, that will not fall to that… don’t let us allow political criminals sponsoring terrorists,” he added.
The activist also dismissed claims that the security crisis was tied to religion, insisting that people of different faiths were victims of the violence.
“Anyone found in the South-West forest reserves is a criminal. What is going on is not a religious war. I am avChristian and my second wife goes to Mecca. Let’s leave religion aside,” Igboho said.
He described the Iru Ekun Security Network as a voluntary organisation created to safeguard lives and restore peace across the South-West.
